Matthew Spence is a PhD candidate at the Australian National University’s Research School of Chemistry. Matthew graduated from a Bachelor of Science (advanced), majoring in Biochemistry with first-class Honours from the Australian National University in 2017. His research revolves around understanding the molecular mechanisms of evolution and how evolution can be used as a guide to engineer novel enzymes and proteins for biotechnological, medical and academic purposes. Outside of his work at the Research School of Chemistry, Matthew is an avid environmentalist with an interest in sustainability and plant sciences.
